This is the first time I have played here so I hope to see some of my Bellevue faithful out in force. Located at the corner of Center St. and Ward Ave.
Few songwriters can convey the problems and feelings of the everyday working Joe quite like Ben Walz. He has a way of pulling you into a song with a catchy melody only to make you notice the message of the song more by the time the disc stops spinning. The directness of his lyrics as well as his musical diversity have drawn him comparisons to the likes of John Mellencamp as well as James Taylor. A comparison he relishes.

Over the years Ben has built a reputation as a great solo acoustic act as well as a terrific performer with his live band where he blends crafty writing with high stage energy. This reputation has enabled him to open up for such acts as Lynard Skynard, Deep Purple Ted Nugett and Soul Asylum.

After a two-year break since the release of his debut album “Circles Around the Sun” Walz is back with the release of his sophomore effort “Days Like These”. Once again he shows he can write songs that entertain as well as mean something to the listener. The songs range in style from the up-tempo pop/rock of the title track to the soft introspective acoustic bareness of the discs most personal song “Remember Me”. Never seeming content to stay in one mode too long Ben shows his ability to branch off on both subject matter and writing style with the Latin influenced “Havana” and the R&B track “Fallin’” which is accented by the keyboards of Ricky Nye and the Saxophone of Jim Bays.

Perhaps the best feature of the Disc is the overall dynamic of the songs and the musicianship. While most releases never tempt you to go past the third track, Walz keeps you interested throughout the entire disc and that might just be what sets him apart from the crowd.
